Figures are interesting to us because we recognise ourselves or our species.  We read body language as well as we read faces, and that can be equally difficult to capture.  I love to do very quick sketches of people doing something like relaxing on a beach, alone and in gr0ups; these are quick sketches but attempt to suggest different activities that we all recognise - and many of us take part in.  These beach sketches in Sydney were quickly done and - I hope - captured some recognisable actions and even relationships.
